Abstract

The use of high-strength concrete has recently garnered significant attention because its use reduces the number of concrete sections, thus providing larger internal spaces within buildings. It also reduces the building's weight, allows for an increase in the number of floors, and is characterized by its high durability and strength over time. This research studied the effect of adding silica fume at percentages of 10%, 15%, and 20% of the cement weight on the properties of high-strength concrete. Since it is necessary to reduce the water-cement ratio to obtain high-strength concrete, a water-cement ratio of 0.30 was used, and the plasticizer Plastocrete-N was used at a rate of 3.5% of the cement weight to maintain the required workability. Some tests were carried out on the concrete mixes and samples, namely the slump test and the compressive strength test for 48 samples (56, 28, 14, 7 days), the indirect tensile strength test for 12 samples after 28 days, and the concrete absorption ratio test for 8 samples. The test results showed an improvement in all concrete properties when silica fume was added compared to the reference mix. The highest compressive strength obtained after 56 days was 87.8 MPa, achieved with 15% silica fume. At the same percentage, the tensile strength of the reference mix increased by 16.19% after 28 days.
